How to properly clean an electric motor on a radial arm saw after 10 years of sitting?
I have a craftsman radial arm saw. it is 30 or so years old and had sat in my fathers basement for the past 10 years and hasn’t been used. it starts up fine but seems to be struggling like the motor or bearings are gummed up like when grease or oil sits for a long time. how can I give it a good once over to make sure it is all cleaned out?
Actually most saw motors are NOT sealed but look for air holes. Use compressed air first and blow out any forien materials. Radio shack sells an electrical cleaner which evaporates after only a few minutes. It is expensive, about 12 dollars so make sure you have access to the motor befor buying. If you do have access the follow the direction very carefully and I would recommend that you do not power the motor for a minimum of 6 hours after the clean.
