What type of bits do Quarter Horses use?
I just bought a Quarter Horse and I’ve always had Arabians and was wondering what type of bit is best for them. I know Arabians use ports but don’t really know about Quarter Horses. She isn’t a show horse, just a trail horse. I don’t really want to use anything to harsh on her either. Could use some advice.
I am just looking for something for trail riding….normally western. I was considering an losse ring snaffle; guess I was right….!!! = )
It Really doesn’t matter, anything really. Some QH’s go with Full Cheek Snaffles, others with Kimberwicks. First of all if you are riding Western a good bit is either a Tomb Thumb, or if the horse is young you can use a Loose Ring Snaffle, Or a Hackamore. If you are riding Hunter/ English Pleasure you can use a Full Cheekk Snaffle( a Really soft bit on the horses mouth) a “D” Ring snaffle (A little stronger than a full cheek but not much) a Kimberwick ( Really strong on a horses mouth, makes it look like you can’t ride , In a show) Or a Pelum (llittle less stonger than a kimberwick, Looks better, ridden with double reins or converter straps for one rein. If you are riding dressage you can use a Egg but Saffle ( pretty light on the horses mouth. It really depends on what you, and your horse are comfortable using.
