What kind of Bolt Cutter do I need to cut the lock of my chest?
I have a 5 dollar combination lock on my chest. For some reason I can’t remember the combination. I have been looking on eBay for a bolt cutter, but not sure what kind to get. Would a 14″ BOLT / CHAIN CUTTER be able to cut my 5 dollar lock off?
Locks are tough because most are hardened steel. Most will break the jaws of a small Chinese made bolt cutter. Save your money. Your best bet is to ask around at work or the neighbors to see who has one. Something in the 36″ range will cut most locks.
A small hand held grinder will make quick work of it. A dremel tool with grinding wheel will also work. Take it outside so the sparks don’t cause burns on your carpet.
A hacksaw may work. Score the area with a file first so the teeth will have something to bite into. Otherwise the blade will just slide across and won’t cut.
