Pros & Cons between screw-fixed and hidden fixing decking?
I am deciding on the fixing method for my decking boards. Screw-fixing or hidden fixings such as decking clips on joists or hidden biscuits between the boards? Any opinions?
You can achieve good aesthetics either way and the choice of decking is really more relevant to budget. For example, on my actual redwood or PT decks I pre-drill my screw locations, slightly countersinking the holes (you easily achieve a uniform depth on each deck component by purchasing a drill attachment that controls the countersinks depth.) And you can by the colored deck screws that don’t stand out and blend into the wood color.
Now if you wan’t to build a composite/plastic deck and want a clip type fastening, I’m going to suggest you consider Eon decking (http://eonoutdoor.com) which is the Rolls Royce of decking and what I’ve been installing for years. This deck has a finish in various woods and colors that appears like a furniture grade finish. The aesthetics & durability and no maintenance makes it the best on the market. . . definitely a product where you really get what you pay for in my professional & personal opinion.
