How do I set permissions for c drive in Microsoft XP Pro?
I understand that in some versions of Windows you can set drive C: Permissions by going to My Computer > right click the drive C: icon > select the Security tab and then edit Permissions. Not so with XP Pro. How do I get there? The bottom line is that I need to temporarily “Allow all items in the list.”
This tab can often be hidden if you have Simple File Sharing enabled. To disable this, click Folder Options from the Tools menu in any Windows Explorer window, click View, and scroll to the bottom of the list. Ensure Use Simple File Sharing (recommended) is unchecked, and press OK.
Incidentally, there’s no legitimate reason that I can think of that anybody would ever ask you to make the change you’re trying to make (and it’s likely to take a long, long time to propogate throughout your entire hard drive, too, depending on how much data is on it). Be aware!
