Rewiring through stucco with no opening over studs?
Year built – 1954. Interior walls are stucco. I am trying to rewire a back bedroom with no visible wires in the attic and no gap in the attic to feed wire between the studs because all the walls have 2X4s laid over them.
Is there any better way to do this than to drill a hole through that board to put the wire down, bust out the old metal outlet box from the stud to make a place to reach in and grab the wire and then replace the box with a new one?
The big concern I have is – I don’t like making holes in these boards as I am not sure how much load they have on them or even why they are there. I understand most homes have a gap you can run wire down. This house has no visible wire in the attic – it is all wired under these 2X4s. These 2X4s are also under the studs in the roof, which sit on these boards. This keeps me from even seeing where the old wire goes down the wall from the attic – no visible wire.

Run a track system for outlets and switches. Run tracks along baseboards to create destinations for the outlets and run a track system along side the door casing for switches. These can be obtained at a electrical supply warehouse, then run your feed through the floor to your service entrance panel(if you have a basement) disconnect the power source to that room and remove existing outlets and switches and put cover plates over them and feed new wires to the circuit breaker. The track system holds 110 romex wire and the track connects to exterior fashion boxes.
