Technology continues to develop everyday, newer and better tools and software’s. The link connecting the program and the end user is not restricted to graphical interface. Software developers put a lot of effort into the design of the interface program. The interface provides a means of communication involving the program and the user. The interface of a program has two categories that is the input and the out put. Input items let the user to enter data to the system and a means to control the system. The output tools then let the system to generate the results of the entered data. It is impossible to imagine a program that has no scroll bars, menus, text boxes, buttons etc. Without the interface, it’s not possible for the user to send a command to the computer and the computer cannot be able to generate any data to the user.
UI test automation can be a single testing activity or part of a general software test. Test tools play a great role in examining the efficiency, effectiveness and user satisfaction of the input and output tools. Test tools establish the performance of the system in terms of executing the input of the user and producing output accordingly. The test tools work depending on the type of interface the program is in. Clients and developers should consider the IU type before executing test automation.
The interface types have three categories: non-traditional UI, common UI and non-desktop computing UI. The common UI interface test tools can cater to the graphical user interface (GUI) and web based user interface (WUI).GUIs are the most widely used type of GUI. They require the use of only the keyboard and mouse for output and input production. WUIs are available in web applications and pages where the general tool used is a web browser.
Non-desktop computing interfaces are just what the name suggests. They are interfaces of computer programs that exist in environments other than office such as factories, medical centers, or construction sites. This classification includes tactical interfaces, command line interfaces and touch interfaces.
The non-traditional UIs are also specific. They may cater to batch interfaces, attentive UIs, conversational interface agents, gesture interfaces, live user interface, multi screen interface, non-command user interface, reflexive user interface, text user interface, voice user interface, tangible user interface, zooming user interface, natural language interface, zero input interface and cross-based interface.
There has been progression to the manufacture of automation test tools, which are easier than the traditional ones. Testing user interface is a multi task since testing tools put every input and output interfaces to the test, and it would be a great relief to have automation-testing tools for this process.
