How much non contact time do newly qualified teachers get a week in their first year?
I have been asked to mentor a newly qualified teacher in my primary school and need to know what amount of time they are entitled to for non contact? Also is there a web site that will show me other things that I will need to know as I have no experience in this area?
In the UK, NQT non contact time is the same all over for comprehensive/state schools.
As standard basic teachers, we get our 10% off for PPA, plus an NQT gets an extra 10% off.
I believe I taught 41 hours per fortnight during my NQT year, so I think it’s 10% off for standard PPA, plus 10% off the remaining time for an NQT, in theory giving me 40.5 hrs out of my 50 hour fortnight schedule.
I’m not a mentor, so i’d need to find out what websites/info is available from a colleague, other than that,ask an experienced mentor, or the TDA, etc. Your school must have mentored NQT’s before so someone must have the info.
