What are the physics involved with striking an open end tube?
I am curious about an equation determining the resonant frequency of a struck, open-end tube. I imagine the equation has to have variables like, speed of sound, mass and or density, tube length, OD, wall thickness. Any help would be appreciated.
Let the length of the tube be L open at both ends.
Then wavelength, lambda could be such that:
L = lambda/2 or Lambda = 2L leading to fundamental frequency, fo given by fo = V/(2L), where V is the velocity of sound or
First Harmonic- L = lambda or f1 = V/L or 2*[V/(2L)]similarly
Second harmonic- L = [3*(lambda)]/2 or lambda = (2L)/3 or
f2 = 3*[V/(2L)] and so on frequency fn for nth harmonic would be given by fn = (n+1)*[V/(2L)
