Why do we bother so much about “global warming” rather than the direct impact of smog in developing nations?
Its all “the environment” and all this air-headedness. Why don’t I see advertising campaigns about all the people who die because of localised pollution in the cities of developing nations?
Do you think they care about coral? And the millions of dollars spent for “global warming” just so some rich westerners can spend all their vacation money to go and snorkel in Australia, or see a whale for about 1 minute? Why are whales and coral and cellebrities, and ocean-front homes being flooded and future air-conditioning expenses more powerful in marketing campaigns for global warming – than all the people who die from smog? Or perhaps that is the only way to even attempt to appeal to us because most people are very shallow?
Life expectencies are very low in the cities of developing nations because of all the smog pollution. Or is there going to be some giant Biblical flood which is more important?
I think you are looking at it the wrong way. Global warming is the larger picture of localised pollution. Why worry about whales and coral reefs? Because they are signs of a much larger scale problem. If your hause is burning, may be that’s the thing you care about at the moment, but then, what if your whole city is on fire? What good is it to worry about just your house if your whole world around you is destroyed? Or what good is it to live in a clean and unpolluted city if it gets beaten every year by bigger storms and huricanes produced by global warming? I think smog in a city in a developing nation is just part of the whole problem called global warming, and I think whatever you do to stop smog and pollution in a city will also help stop or slow global warming, which will make everybody’s life better.
